Horse & Carriage Tour Operator

Job description

Are you passionate about horses, history, and creating memorable experiences for visitors? Trot in Time Carriage Tours in the historic town of Lunenburg, NS, is seeking a friendly and dedicated Horse and Carriage Tour Driver to join our team for the upcoming season. This is a unique opportunity to work outdoors, partner with majestic horses, and share the charm of Lunenburg with guests from around the world.

 

Key Responsibilities

Drive horse-drawn carriages through scenic routes in Lunenburg while providing engaging and informative tours about the town’s history and landmarks.

  • Ensure the safety and comfort of passengers and horses at all times.
  • Groom, feed, and care for horses before, during, and after shifts.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and appearance of carriages and equipment.
  • Handle customer inquiries professionally and ensure a positive guest experience.
  • Adhere to local laws governing horse-drawn carriage operations.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with horses (carriage driving experience preferred but not required; training will be provided).
  • Strong customer service skills with an outgoing and friendly personality.
  • Physically fit to handle the demands of working with horses and carriages outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Valid driver’s license (required) and First Aid certification (preferred, but not required).
  • Knowledge of Lunenburg’s history or a willingness to learn.

Schedule

This is a seasonal position running from May through October, or June through September. Weekend and holiday availability is required as these are peak times for tours.

Pay: $15.60-$17.50 per hour plus tips (which are often match salary)

Expected hours: 36 – 48 per week

Waterfront Manager

Job Summary:

The Waterfront Manager is a dynamic and engaging role that involves interacting with potential guests at the waterfront, promoting our carriage tours, scheduling tours, taking payments, and providing detailed information about Lunenburg’s attractions. This position is ideal for someone with a passion for history, excellent communication skills, and a friendly demeanor.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Greet and engage with visitors at the waterfront, offering them detailed information about our horse and buggy tours
  • Manage booking arrangements and organize tour schedules efficiently.
  • Provide guests with insights and stories about Lunenburg’s history and significant landmarks during tours.
  • Coordinate with carriage drivers and other staff to ensure seamless tour operations.
  • Handle customer inquiries and resolve any issues with professionalism and courtesy.
  • Maintain an inviting and organized waterfront presence, including signage and promotional materials.
  • Collect and analyze guest feedback to continuously improve the tour experience.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and standards in tour operations.

Qualifications:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational abilities and attention to detail.
  • Previous experience in customer service, hospitality, or related field preferred.
  • Knowledge of Lunenburg’s history and culture is a plus.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
  • Enthusiastic and personable, with a natural ability to engage with diverse groups of people.
